Job Information – Air Freight Operator / Freight Forwarding Import & Export Clerk
We are recruiting an Air Freight Operator / Freight Forwarding Import & Export Clerk to join a growing aviation logistics operation specialising in AOG and time‑critical shipments. This is a fast‑paced, hands‑on role coordinating urgent import and export movements across multiple transport modes.
You will manage the full operational cycle — from collections and bookings to customs entries, documentation, communication with overseas agents and real‑time customer updates. The role requires urgency, accuracy and the ability to perform under pressure.
This position offers long‑term development within a business known for reliability, responsiveness and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Multimodal Shipment Coordination
- Manage worldwide import and export shipments via air, road, sea and courier
- Oversee end‑to‑end operations including collections, bookings, tracking and delivery
AOG & Time‑Critical Response
- React rapidly to AOG situations to minimise aircraft downtime
- Provide real‑time updates to customers, suppliers and overseas partners
- Support 24/7 operations through the on‑call rota
Transport & Carrier Management
- Book flights, road transport, couriers and on‑board courier (OBC) services
- Liaise with airlines, hauliers, carriers and global agents
Customs & Documentation
- Prepare and submit UK import and export customs entries
- Complete AWBs, bills of lading, manifests and delivery paperwork
- Assist with dangerous goods documentation when required
Customer & Supplier Communication
- Deliver clear, proactive communication to customers and partners
- Maintain strong service levels in a time‑critical environment
Systems & Administration
- Maintain accurate shipment records within internal systems
- Support senior operations staff with daily logistics tasks
Candidate Requirements
- Strong background in freight forwarding, logistics or import/export operations
- Experience completing UK customs entries (imports & exports)
- Previous operations or coordination experience within logistics
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment
- Excellent communication, organisation and multitasking skills
- High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving ability
- Confident using Microsoft Office and logistics systems
- Proactive, reliable and team‑focused approach
- AOG experience desirable but not essential
